Years ago, I disconnected the passenger side airbag on my 92 968 and installed a 3 ohm resistor to trick the system into thinking the airbag was still connected. Now, I've removed the airbag module (I'm converting the car to a mostly-track car), and I'd like to go ahead and remove the control unit as well. Does anyone know if removing the control unit altogether will trigger the airbag warning light? If so, is there a way to trick the system into thinking everything is still there, when in fact it has all been removed? Thanks.

Dan,
There are three connectors going into the airbag control unit, each with 12 pins. There's a pink connector, an off-white one, and a blue one. On the blue connector, you need to jumper the #11 and #12 pins, according to Ivan of IMA Motorsports, to trick the car into thinking the airbag control unit is still connected.
But you don't need to remove the ABCU (which is a royal pain) to test this; just remove the blue connector and jumper the two pins to see if it helps your problem. I'm not sure that it will, though, since to get the lights to go out, you need to convince the car's electrical system that the airbag modules and ABCU are still connected, so I don't see how disconnecting the ABCU will accomplish this. It's strange that the 3 ohm resistor trick didn't work for you - I did this years ago, and I never got a warning light. Did you disconnect the battery a good hour before you disconnected the airbag modules?
