I was recently driving on the highway and my temp guage spiked from the normal 3/4 to max and the warning light came on.  I immediately pulled over and turned the engine off.  My fan(s) came on for about two minutes, then turned off.  The temp guage remained at max.  I would have expected the fan(s) to stay on until the temp decreased to normal.  To be safe, I had it towed to my local shop.

He determined that one of the fans was not operating and replaced the fan relay and swith.  Now when the fans come on, instead of running continuously for 30sec-2min like before, the fans come on for several seconds then turn off, then back on - repeating several times.  seems very obnoxious.  just wondering if this is normal, or if it was correct before.

my mechanic referenced two different engaging temps, 90 degrees C and 110 and the corresponding "cycling".  I'm a little confused.

In the 968's, are both fans supposed to run simultaneously to cool?

I read through the thread titled "Overheating-need some advice".  It was helpful, but my case seems pretty specific.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
