The car currently has 22,250 miles. Before purchasing this car I traveled around the US and looked at approximately 5 to 10 968s and this one (I kid you not), looks like it just rolled off the production line. The car was produced in May of 1993, but it was labeled a 1994 Model. It is very interesting because it has all of the options that were available on the 1994 and 1995 models as well as the "under the hood" plastic molding around the engine with the small glove compartment. (This was not supposed to be offered on the 1994 and 1995 models) I really like this little addition because it makes the engine area much more attractive, not to include the fact that I can now store some Porsche labeled gloves in there as well. :) I am planning to show this car in our local concours events. |

I had the car inspected (pre-purchase) at Contemporary Porsche In Orlando. I asked them specifically to look at the pinion bearings (thanks for the excellent although scary discussion group; by the way, I questioned 2 dealers about this and while they acknowledged the problem, they both said that while a relatively high % of 968s suffered the problem, each had only seen a couple with the problem and it wasn't ubiquitous). The car got a passing grade though one of the wheel bearings is starting to go, the top stopped working (luckily it's stuck closed and the temp. gauge works only when it feels like it). Including a timing belt replacement (just to be safe), I figure about $1000 to get it shipshape. And there are some squeaky bits that have to be tracked down. Runs very nicely however and cosmetically is pretty nice. |

Isringhausen is known for only handling the best of the best used premium cars. I was looking for a late 944 or 944 Turbo. But saw this 968 and was delighted. I work in South America most of the year and keep the car in storage in Illinois. It's driven about four times a year by my mechanic friend, or when I come home for visits. My last drive was in June 2000, and after getting into it after being away, it's a better driving experience than I remember. It's a pleasure, and some times, a thrill ; ) to drive. The front engine water pumpers from Porsche are simply perfect sports cars, and usually vastly underrated. |
