So who's
behind this site, anyway?
968 owners and fans from around the world make the 968.net happen; your truly
just gathers submissions and posts 'em to the web.Why
was this site created?
After I bought my 968 in February of 1998, I realized there was a dearth of
968-related information on the Internet. So I set out to create the one source for
anything anyone could ever want to know about the 968. I wanted to develop the kind of
site I wish existed when I bought my car.
Why did you buy a 968?
In late 1997 I was looking to replace my '87 Audi 5000S, which was in need of some rather
expensive repairs. The Audi had 150,000 miles, and I figured it didn't make much sense to
sink a lot of money in her, so I set out to find an Audi S-4. These super-fast sedans are
rare, and I had trouble finding one in Atlanta. Many dealers had never even seen such a
beast. While one such dealer worked the phones for an S-4 he believed to exist in Florida,
I wandered his lot and noticed a beautiful triple-black 968 cabriolet. I looked her over
for a good ten minutes before the dealer joined me. He hadn't yet found the S-4, but asked
if I was interested in the 968. Heck, I replied, I'd always wanted a Porsche, but I
probably couldn't afford one. As it turned out this 968 was less expensive than the S-4. I
went home that night and voraciously searched the Internet for 968 info. You know how
helpful this was. I did manage to find morsels here and there, and soon I was completely
sold on the car. Unfortunately that particular 968 failed my trusted mechanic's
pre-purchase inspection, but within a few months I found a 968 my mechanic approved of.
This beautiful '94 cabriolet can be found on the Registry, listed under
Tom & Kathy Greany, to whom I sold the cab in October of 2000. Four
days after selling the cab I picked up a '94 speed yellow coupe, which
can be seen in photos throughout this site. I still have the Audi, by the
way.
So you're a web developer, right?
Ha! It should be obvious to y'all that this web stuff is just a hobby. There's nothing
fancy about 968.net; if Microsoft Front Page can't do it, I can't do it, and you won't see
it. Any and all suggestions are welcome!
What do you do to support your Porsche habit?
By day I'm a product development manager for Cox
Communications. Currently I'm developing products
for the residential high-speed data market. Great career for meeting women, let
me tell you.
Anything more you can tell us about yourself?
